Multnomah Zen, a four waterfall scenic hiking experience
Multnomah Falls and other waterfalls and vistas of the Columbia Gorge are astonishing icons of geology, the sort that have inspired mythology and lore of warriors, gods and passions. We will drive out in our vans to meet the tallest waterfall in the state, and then drive to a few of the shorter but even more stunning ones, too; falls which could only be the daughters and sons of legend. In this half-day experience, we will explore wonders with some short hikes (totaling less than 2.5 miles/4 km) and visits to overlooks and vistas that will have you gasping in awe. While Multnomah Falls and its iconic Benson Bridge are together the most-visited tourist attraction in the Portland area, they are only a part of our experience. We will meet at our shop in inner SE Portland, where we'll ride in our comfortable Sprinter and Transit vans to the nearby gorge. Depending on weather conditions, we will visit a few small hidden waterfalls and spectacular plunge-style falls whose columnar basalt has us learning words for "amazing" in other languages. We'll also tell you stories, geology, botany and oft-repeated tales of pioneers and road-builders, but also the old stories we've learned, of gods and wild spirits and about the oldest North American civilization, forever altered by “manifest destiny." Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your group may be up to 10.

Grilling with Chef Steve
With me, Chef Steven, you'll be cooking and eating some of the very best grilled food of your life! You'll begin by learning about preparation methods for various proteins (brining, dry rub, marinating) to ensure juicy, flavorful results. Then you'll learn how to pair sauces with your proteins to further enhance their flavor. And to close out the evening, we'll make the entire meal on the grill for you to enjoy! I focus the class on the science and the "why" behind grilling techniques. You'll learn my "Golden Seven" rules for perfectly grilled proteins, and tips for searing and smoking like a pro! While the weather in Portland can be unpredictable, our grilling patio is completely covered and we have outdoor heaters if the grill isn't keeping us warm enough! We will hold the class regardless of weather. (Alternate class times, private parties or parties of greater than 10 can be accommodated by contacting the Chef directly.) I can also come to you! If you've booked an AirBNB in the Portland area (up to 60 miles away) that has a grill, I can come teach the class at your location! I also do private chef parties, catering and events. Just message me for details. Unfortunately, I cannot host a class for one person, but solo guests can feel free to join classes with other guests.
Wild Edibles Hike in the Forest

Whitewater Rafting; Splashes & Smiles
The White Salmon River flows through a collapsed lava tube coming off Mt. Adams, a designated Wild and Scenic area - it's stunning. Expect to paddle several rapids, the size of the rapids and length of the trip changes with the seasons. Shorter trip length and larger rapids during high water spring time. We'll meet at Northwestern Park just outside of White Salmon WA, across the river from from Hood River. It's an hour and a half from Portland in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. We'll be rafting the White Salmon River, an estuary of the Columbia. After introductions we'll outfit you with a wetsuit, wetsuit booties, helmet and personal floatation device. We'll then take a short van ride to the put in. After an informative river orientation talk we walk down a path to the river, the noise of the rapids ever growing as we descend! Three hours later we'll be back at our cars; Photos of the trip as well as merchandise will be for sale. You may choose to bring a picnic and relax in the park after our trip or check out downtown White Salmon and Hood River. I love this river and sharing the experience and I look forward to seeing you soon! ~Scott Other things to note Your experience may just be your group on a raft with your guide or some new friends may join! Sometimes up to 7 rafts may go depending on who joins that day. We go rain or shine, expect to get wet!
Sunrise and doughnuts on the Aerial Tram
Get a beauty-filled start to your day with a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram! The early guest gets the spectacular views. At the start time (6:30 am weekdays, later on Saturdays due to limited hours for the tram), we’ll pick you up in central downtown Portland, and take our favorite drive along the city's western ridgeline, down into pocket neighborhoods that feel like secrets. At OHSU, we’ll walk with you to the Aerial Tram. We’ll serve you craft roasted coffee and some of Portland’s best doughnuts with a view of the first morning light, then we’ll ride this feat of Swiss engineering up to the top as the early sun reveals the city’s glowing colors. (Due to new hours for some shops and varying sunrise times, coffee may be our first stop.) After we ride back to the bottom, we'll tell you the story of the bridge and its quixotic lights, and orient you to the city whose east-west divider lies before us. The Aerial Tram was built in 2006 to connect the main campus of Oregon Health Sciences University with the new neighborhood of the South Waterfront. Afterward, we'll drop you off back downtown at Director's Park. Our mission is, not just to show you the best way to start one day in Portland, but also to help you prioritize your time. Think of us as concierges to your Portland experience! NOTE: We can't operate Sundays when the tram is closed.
Gorge waterfall hike and bike adventure
Our experience provides the best of its category -- best bicycles, guides, vehicles! We transport our guests and bikes in comfortable vans, and our guides ride with very small groups. We'll visit waterfalls you will not see on other tours. You'll immerse yourself in the temperate rainforest! We tell the stories that need to re-awaken. Beyond the 180 years of pioneers and loggers, before the century-old highway, this was the land of people with a rich mythology. We remember the long history this place holds, and tell these stories as best we can. After we fit you for bikes at our shop in SE Portland, we'll drive out toward adventure. The bike ride and hike both take place in the Columbia River Gorge, the waterfall-laden western end of an 80-mile (130-km) canyon. At a breathtaking vista overlooking the Gorge, we'll take photos, and hear the story of who was here before us. Over the course of the tour, we'll ride 4-6 miles (7-10 km), gentle downhill and some uphill (depending on your group) on a historic highway frequented by cyclists, see four waterfalls including Multnomah Falls, hike about 1.0-2 miles (2-4km) -- all within a 30-40 min drive of the city. The tour is 4-5 hours; you'll remember it for years to come! Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your overall tour group may be up to 10.
